Dealing with Creditors

This is perhaps one of the most distasteful tasks that a person has to face – dealing with creditors. Yet like many things in life, we have to do what we have to do. It is better to face the music and get it over with. Of course, if we can find ways to make a distasteful task a little bit better, then why not? Here are some tips to help you out when dealing with creditors.

Do not underestimate the power of communication.
What some people do is go about their own business, ignoring letters, phone calls, and other means of communication form their creditors. They think that they will find some solution first before getting in touch with the creditors. Though it would be a good thing to have something “solid” in hand when you face them, it is not a good idea to ignore their attempts at getting hold of you! The best thing to do is to deal with them early on and maybe you can find a solution together. Communication is vital to solving your debt problems.

Miss Manners always helps.
It is true that some creditors do not have the best of manners but that does not mean that you have to treat them the same way they do you. In fact, my idea is to kill them with kindness. Then again, that does not mean you have to be a pushover. Just be polite and courteous but firm at the same time. This always works better than being rude and arrogant.
