The Art of Regifting (Part 2)
December 11th, 2007 | by getapayday |Here are more tips to help you regift this Christmas without the embarrassment that may arise from missteps.
Hand-me-downs are not the same as regifting
Well it can be, if you wanted it, but it is really not a good idea unless there is express agreement between you and the recipient. Regifting simply means you give something that was given to you before but that does not mean you have used it. Hand-me-downs are simply things that you have already used and you want to pass them on to someone else.
Make sure you know who gave you the gift
One of the biggest blunders when it comes to regifting is that people accidentally give the gift back to the person who originally gave it to them! Imagine how you would feel if your friend gave you a coffee mug for Christmas and you realise that it was the exact same mug you gave him last year? To avoid this, keep a list of gifts you plan to give away and note down who gave it to you.
Clean them up
Rule of thumb – go the extra mile to make your regift presentable. Sometimes, you may even get away with regifting hand-me-downs. For example, a set of wine glasses that you do not really but you’ve used once or twice – they can be acceptable regifts, as long as you clean them up and put them in a nice packaging.
Regifting is not at all that bad – as long as you do it with taste and remember why you are giving.
